Website Update

This is going to take some getting used to!!!!  I’m not by any means a computer genius so that’s probably the biggest problem but I’m gradually stumbling thru it!!!  Suppose once one gets it figured out (where I’m going and how to get there) it’ll be ok but till then for me it’s kind of stumbling around in the dark!!!

RE:Website Update

Gary,
Stumbling in the dark will help exersize sences not often used so this may be a good thing...
I don't know anything about Iphones other than every time I go out to eat at a fancy place I look over at all the people eating around me and all I see is them looking down at them on both sides of the table. I don't know why a young girl would go through all the work of fixing her hair and make up when her date can't even take the time to look up at her across the table to see what she even looks like, he is too busy looking down pecking on his phone... Maybe their still trying to figure out how to run it?
We are slowly trying to deal with the hickups as they come along, here is a little tid bit from the web designer.

Jo & Joe,
Most of the comments regarding white space, scrolling, spacing etc. have to be from folks who have not been to a new website which is responsive or mobile friendly.  They need to remember how they were viewing the old site on their mobile device before.  They were probably zooming in and moving the screen around to see the content, not user friendly at all. Scrolling down is very, very common on all new sites. In fact, scrolling allows you to have more info on the screen and at a larger for size so you can read it.

I'll look into all the items you mentioned before giving you a call.  We did testing on Android and iPhone without issue.

Thank you for all the feedback.
Brenden

RE:Website Update

In response to the comment:  "I can guarantee the image posting issues are user error..."   Interesting.  I posted photos (taken by my phone and transferred to my laptop so that I could post them) of what happened with each step when I have tried to post photos from my iPhone.  I anxiously await response to that series of photos on just what is the "user error"  and how to fix it...

Oh, and by the way, I had to re-sign in again this morning, even though I have marked the "keep me signed in" several times...

RE:Website Update

Hi Breden
For me this website is 100% better than the old one. I could never post photos properly from my mobile or write in paragraphs which I can do now.

The one thing I would say, and it is probably not possible to do is when you are posting a photo and go to choose file it comes up with camera  video, file. Would it be possible to make it so that you could go straight into Gallery to select the photo instead of going through file into photos?

Many thanks

Alan

RE:Website Update

John,

I too have had to re-sign in even though the "keep me signed in" option is selected. It seems like to me that if I'm not active on here for 2-3 hours it signs me out.

RE:Website Update

Ouch!! If it is multiple user errors by more than a few people then there might be a tutorial needed to help us thru the errors of our ways!

I can load pics thru my computer but multiple times I have tried to load pics on my iPhone  thru the iPhone without success!  Looks right, feels right, but I continually get the "can not load ..." message.

I also can not understand why the computer based view has been severely compromised at that cost of the iphone.  You should not have to look at 3 screens on the computer to view what used to be one screen (Officers page). You can barely see "Massey Collectors Association" on the opening screen.  Other web sites have not been compromised when you look at their site on the computer then jump to the phone.  I am very confident I do not change my screen setting to make things look pretty on the computer.

Thanks again for fixing the formatting of the paragraphs and coding errors!!

i guess my bachelors degree in computer technology is officially obsolete!!

RE:Website Update

Joe and Jo-Jo,

Thanks for keeping us updated.

As I still see it the only advantage of the new site is that people can post from mobile devices - OK so this is now fixed - good - but many seem to be still having problems with the fix.  But why could this facility not have simply been changed/added to the old site for which there were no complaints about the most pleasant looking and easy to use format? As far as I am aware there was no calling for a change of format.

Brendan has fallen in to the trap of not appreciating who his MCA clientel are.  As we all know we are an ageing lot and we are not all appreciative of unnecessary change as is borne out by quite a few comments.  Brendan comments that it is now very easy to scroll down on the new site but we could do this on the old site without having to endure all the now present clutter.

On the old site I used to endlessly scroll down the list of threads and then the lists of posts contained therein when I wanted to track down old comments and pictures.  t was so easy.  It is now far from obvious to me how this is easily achieved and how much excess presentation I would have to endure.  And remember that a major purpose of the site was the storage of contributors information.  The old system was brief and concise for going back into old posts.

I wonder what was Brendan's brief?  Was it to reinvent the site or simply to facilitate photo loading from mobile devices.  I think that we can draw paralels with tractor updates/modifications.  One does not need to reinvent and rebuild a tractor simply to add on a turbo or modernising device.

Brendan comments about some not having been on modern web sites on mobile devices.  I am one of these.  He says that scrolling down is common on these - well we did this on the old site on our lap tops and computers on the old site - as well as mobiles!!  So what is he getting at?  New ness should not be confused with or equated to being better, tho' it can be if correctly implemented to serve potential clientel.

Hoping that we can get through all this and as I have said before - not lose any members or deter potential new ones - many of whom will come from the aged class!!

I maybe of the aged class group but I know what I want and appreciate!

Good luck with it all!!!!

And Joe - I share your loathing of these moble addicts in restaurants - they should be banned for the good of mankind in such places.  What a bore they all are to themselves and others.

John

RE:Website Update

I think people are getting that feeling that I get when I take a Carburetor apart 4 times and it still leaks or has a clogged jet or when I take a Magneto on and off a tractor pull it all apart only to have it work perfect on the bench and miss when back on the tractor....Ya want to just take a hammer and smash it....

Relax

It may take a little time but we will get this thing tunned and running yet. In the mean tme let's not start a Boxing Match..
