Just heard from Jack Holton of Iowa.  It is with heavy heart we let you know that his wife, LaVon,  left us this morning at 10:30. We will miss this wonderful lady ever so dearly. 
May she rest in peace.

Obituary

Le Mars, Iowa – LaVon Faye Holton, 85, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at St. Joseph Church. The family will be present from 3-5 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 5 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour before the Mass on Monday.

LaVon Faye Holton was born on April 8, 1938, in Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Stanley Le Roy and Ruth Mae (Kemnitz) June. She was educated in Merrill where she graduated from high school. LaVon worked at the Keiser Sundry Store in Merrill for 6 years.

On September 1, 1956, LaVon and John “Jack” Holton were united in marriage at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill. They made their home in Harlan, Iowa, for a brief time before moving to a farm near Merrill where they raised their children.

LaVon was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Merrill and later All Saints Parish in Le Mars. She was a 50-year member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a strong supporter of Gehlen Catholic Schools. LaVon was known for her cooking and baking and her love of entertaining. She even published her own cookbook. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she made a snowman every winter season. She and Jack enjoyed the fellowship of the Massey – Harris Tractor and Toy club. Above all, LaVon’s life revolved around her faith and family.

LaVon will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, John “Jack” Holton of Le Mars, IA; a son, John Joseph Holton, Jr. of Le Mars, IA; a daughter Mary Faye Holton of Merrill, IA; a daughter and her husband, Annette June and Mitch Sitzmann of Le Mars, IA; and a son, Alan Stanley Holton of Merrill, IA; grandchildren, John (Carissa) Holton III, Jennifer (Adam) Paulsen, Cody Holton, Courtney (David) Anderson, Cole Holton, Shawn Holton, Travis Holton, Jordan Holton, Tyler Holton, Reanna Holton, Stephanie (Dustin) Poeckes, Shayla (Ryan) Downing, Travis Sitzmann, Jaden Lane, Khloe Mann; great-grandchildren, Emma Holton, Kaydence Poeckes, Wesley Poeckes, Jaxon Poeckes, Caleb Poeckes, Hunter Downing, Connor Downing, Brinley Downing, Jameson Paulsen, Emmett Paulsen, John “Jack” Holton IV, Wesley Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Berens of Benson, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Wilmer (Catherine) June, Donna (Merlin) Bock, Marlo (Janice) June, Doris (Ken) Muyskens and Beverly Berens.

Memorials in LaVon’s name may be directed to All Saints Parish, Gehlen Catholic Schools or Life Skills Training Center.

The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Society for the wonderful care they provided LaVon.
