Massey tractor 100th anniversary?????

I did establish at the MF/AGCO Diamond Roadshow that there are apparently no celebrations to be organised by them for the 100th anniversary of the first ever Massey (Harris) tractor in 1918.  I have not heard of any other organisation intending to do anything either.

Are MCA going to do anything????  Will AGCO in the USA be doing anything???  Great shame to let such an iconic event slip by.  I will be doing my bit and getting my No 2 out to a couple oflocla shows all being well.  No 1s and 2s produced in 1918 but non No 1s known to survive - they are essentially the same tractor.

Is anyone aware of anything?????  Please let us know

John,
You made up my mind for me.
Here at my place, during the month of August, I'm going to stop each day at about 4:30, sit in my red and yellow lawn chair, face the northeast (Toronto), observe a moment of silence, and sip a cold drink.
One day for each piece of MH I have. That should get me through the whole month.

RE:Massey tractor 100th anniversary?????

In discussion with Steve Arnold this past weekend at the Massey Collectors Association Spring Meeting, I learned that he is putting together a special recognition for the 100th Anniversary of Massey tractors which will be on display at the Massey Exposition of North America in Paisley, Ontario, Canada this summer.

I won't give it all away here, but I believe everyone will be pleased.    If Steve wants to share more about it on this site ahead of time, I will leave that up to him.  I think it is going to be special.

John, Malcolm & UK members,

Could we not organise a Uk gathering over a weekend somewhere?
I’m up for it. I’m sure the various enthusiast magazines would be interested in publicising and reporting too.

Brgds Jon.

Jon,

A great idea but I do feel the few collectors of early M-H in the UK are so spread out around the country that logistics and costs put the brakes on such an event without some major sponsorship.
The three Number 2's in UK are located as far apart east / west as they could be which makes it difficult to get them altogether for the celebration.

Paul,

You made my day too.  I think it’s important that we all individually celebrate the 100th Massey tractor as we individually wish.  If there was an event on over here I would certainly attend.  My tentative plans are to take my No 2 to a couple of local shows – it was also made in 1918 and we also have our annual tractor party in the tractor shed for the three grandsons so we will make that a bit special for the 100th and also the 70th of my Dad’s TEA 20 Ferguson.

Whatever, have fun and remember that the most important place for a Massey is in your HEART!!!!!

RE:Massey tractor 100th anniversary?????

Jon,

I very much share Malcolm's view on the difficulty and logistics of organising a UK Massey 100th event.  I would have hoped that a lead and sponsorship on this might have come from AGCO but it is sadly apparently not to be.

For my own part I have explained to Paul what bit I will be doing, but I would add further that I would welcome any genuine Massey enthusiasts to pay me a private vist to see my efforts here at preserving the Massey Heritage

RE:Massey tractor 100th anniversary?????

As no-one else apart from Twin Power up in Canada appear to be making anything of the 100th anniversary of the first "Massey" tractor I am in my own small way going to celebrate.  We will be having our annual "tractor party in the sheds" for my grandsons in summer, and I want to get my No 2 out to a couple of local shows.  My son and I have a No 2 each.  I want to get mine to the shows as it is slightly older but this is all pending me getting a new float made.  My son's sits there in reserve!!

In readiness for this I have made up a collage to post at the front of the tractor in a rigid frame which I show here.  Hope it is viewable.  I wanted to get a professionally made large poster made but upon taking it to my loacl printers they declined.  Poster work is apparently no longer profitabe as needless to say the internet has taken over, and he said all printers had given up doing them.  So much for progress.  Anyway here is what I have knocked up using a simple cheap frame purchased from a large local discount store.  DIY lives on!

RE:Massey tractor 100th anniversary?????

Time moves on so fast and it's less than two weeks to our Annual Carrington Rally near Boston in Lincolnshire.

Here is the artwork from our local sign makers for the 100th Anniversary Banner to be displayed at the event.

Malcolm The banner looks really nice. Pity there aren't many AGCO ones about. Looking forward to meeting up with you at Carrington. Alan
