RE:Wallis Tractors

Had a little time about a week ago so I thought I would pull the radiator off the Cub jr and fix the pin hole leak. I figured as long as I have the radiator off I should put some new packing in the water pump. When I took the drive off the shaft, much to my surprise the shaft dropped into the radiator. I couldn't figure out how this happened as there is no way this should have happened. I figured no problem I will just flip the radiator over and tap it and it will come back out. Well it did come out and fell out on the ground! when this happened I knew in a second as to why my governor wasn't working as the impeller wasn't even turning. I pulled the pump off the radiator and sure enough the pin was laying in the bottom of the pump housing. I can't believe this happened as I completely went through this pump in January and had never had this pin out of the impeller as I thought it was too much of a hassle to pull it out and there was no reason to even take it out as the shaft can be pulled out with the impeller on it. My  governor works like a million bucks now!

RE:Wallis Tractors

Joe,
without a doubt that is the best, and most amusing, use for an ironing board I've ever seen. Brilliant.
Cheers Jon.

RE:Wallis Tractors

I was taught along time ago that an old Ironing board is the best tool in the shed and it is true. I have several and use them all the time, they set up in less than two seconds and store away taking almost no room at all. Now you can say you learned something today!

RE:Wallis Tractors

Hi Joe,
I have indeed - I'm going to have to get one!
Cheets Jon.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Went on a long drive yesterday 1,288 miles and picked up another Wallis K. it is missing the serial tag but the engine # is 13973 so if you add 471 you get 14444 so if I am reading things right according to Keith's book the first model K was 14442 so this tractor would be the 3rd Model K off the line? Right?

RE:Wallis Tractors

One really cool thing about this tractor I haven't ever come across before is that it has a factory belt pulley guard on it! Never seen one before only pictures in the parts books.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Joe,
I'm not sure if 14442 is the first model K. If you look in the parts book number 23 for the Cub jr and K3 there is a list of all K3 serial numbers and if you look at those numbers there are 61 numbers missing. So if the missing numbers are K4s that would make yours the sixty fourth one built.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Graham,

Tom & I talked on the phone and that is pretty much what we had come up with also but the question to me is were these 61 tractors just Cub Jrs or model Ks? I don't know where Keith got his numbers from when writing the book but his number starts out for the Ks as 14442. Either way this is the oldest model K that I know of so far... I got it to run this afternoon for the first time in over 50 years!

This tractor was bought new by Pete W. Balzer this tractor was the first tractor on the farm that replaced the horses. The Ratzlaff Bros. who I bought this tractor from were the grandsons of Pete and said it had been parked in the grove for over 30 years and when Pete died they moved it to their farm to where it sat in their shed for over 25 years. Believe it or not it wasn't stuck and there was still oil in the engine and no stuck valves. Just needs the gas tank fixed and some minor things as usual.
