RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Well...last weekend we had our annual rally. It is always good to help others out at a vintage expo.  So I couldn't help myself and I took a photo of my son tow starting a Case with the Challenger and then towing a nicely restored reaper and binder around the parade. The 44 Special was also used in the steam area to tow my portable steam engines around....a great weekend... Regards Bucko.

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Well after owning this tractor since 2012 I finally got to hear it run good today! Not for long as the radiator is not on yet but I got it timed good and fires right up with good oil pressure. I "WON" this tractor!!   It sounds better that way when you get something off ebay, from a guy in Levenworth, Kansas back in 2012 but it was all apart and in pieces with some missing but for the most part it was mostly there. Now I just have to get the radiator mounted and straighten out the gas tank mounts and pound out the dents the last owner put in I moving it around his place.

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Not a real productive day today but I got a job done I've been putting off for a couple weeks as it is not a fun one. I got the three broken off studs removed from the Wallis K block that hold the water governor housing and fan support. It was a slow tedious job but I got it done so am very happy about that.

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Was nice weather here the last couple days so I thought I better get my plowing done before it freezes again. The little Fergie pulled a three bottom with plenty of power to spare in second gear and my brother got to try out his new tractor with a little two bottom so with the two of us we were just like the big farmers back in the late fifties making laps with a MH 55 pulling a 5 bottom.

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Joe,

That's a good performance from a 1947 TE 20!  One wouldn't expect it to exactly walk away with a 3 furrow plough as it has done so maybe your soil is an "easy" type of soil????.  I notice that your brother's new toy needs wheel weights on the rear but maybe somewhat necessary to compensate for the weight of the loader on the front end?

Aren't those Perkins 3 cylinder diesel engines just so smooth and with tremendous lugging power?  Pity that Harry Ferguson was somehat blinkered towards diesel engines in those early days of the TEs.

There appears to be no wheelslip to talk of with the TE.  Remarkable!  Here at the moment my soil is so saturated and having quite a bit of clay content the surface is extremely greasy that ploughing is currently a non-starter - particularly on our slopes.

Hope you finished the field before nightfall...........

John

Lovely photos Joe. I thought you had snow on the ground in Minnesota? That looks a mighty big field that you are in. I think it will be after dark before you get finished!!! Alan

Could post this in the 'tractor design faults' too....

Spent the last couple of days restoring what was a very heavily worn steering drag link. Both ends had been weld repaired before, but as you can see the front one was nearly half way through.

Surprisingly quick and easy to reprofile all the parts. Just need to make up a cup washer (as one was missing) and we might have some half sensible steering.....

More happy MH days.

Cheers, Jon.

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

For the first time, I DROVE my Pacemaker out of the workshop!

A momentous day for me - and he ran very nicely for a hour or so outside in the sun. No leaks, no blown gaskets, no horrible noises. Drove him up onto the road but not out onto the main road!!

I've posted a short video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NatxO5XdJRk

Sounds lovely to me, but I am biased.....

Next: oil changes all round, make a choke mechanism, make fuel lines and re-commission the original fuel tank.

Still on track for some spring field work.

Cheers, Jon.

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Hi Jon Great to see you have got your tractor started. You must be very pleased. Interesting to see you refer to your tractor as Him. I bought my first tractor from Somerset, a Standard Fordson and the chap who sold it to me referred to it as Him. That was the first time I had heard a tractor referred to as Him. We always called them Her especially Standard Fordsons that can be so cantankerous!!!!! Alan

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Got another set of expensive Mitas tires put on the rear of my Twin Power Challenger I picked up last weekend, now if I get time in the next couple days I have to get the front tires on then tidy it up a little and I will be ready to head off to the shows with it.
