Dan, I appreciate you offering. I am going to try to get the one I have to free up if I can, Ive had it soaking in some oil. I will keep your offer in the back of my mind. Thanks again. Dakota

Larry I know exactly what you mean. Every time I plan on doing something usually something else more important comes up. That's the way with me, I figured it'll get done slowly but surely, haha.

RE:started taking the 55 apart

The weather has cooled down some and it’s a lot more comfortable around here and probably in the shop if I ever get these other jobs caught up so I can get back in there tho looks like a week or two before I can get back to the 101!!!

RE:started taking the 55 apart

Well I finally found some time to get back the 55 today and found that the center of the clutch was NOT tore out like we thought. However, we did find (and think) that this tractor has had this problem before as the clutch shaft bearing housing had been welded, very poorly I might add. We also found that the clutch shaft did not slide out like the service manual had said and ended up taking the clutch/pressure plate off as one whole piece and found that the pilot bearing was stuck on the other end of the shaft. When we took the pilot bearing off, the shaft was pitted on that end. (Pictures attached). All the bearings were shot and the clutch is pretty wore down, so all that needs replaced. I would like to find a new clutch shaft and clutch shaft bearing housing if possible. Although I must admit, I'm not having much hope in that. Any pointers anyone can give me would be great.

Cheers,

RE:started taking the 55 apart

Certainly have a mess there!!!  Do you have the parts manual for that tractor???  I wander if any parts off 44 (maybe 44 standard) would work???  I have 44 parts manual and when I get a chance will we if I can get u some part numbers to compare to 55 parts!  If some would happen to be the same I may be able to hop u out!!!!

RE:started taking the 55 apart

I sure do! And yes I do have a parts manual for it, bought it the same time when I bought the operators manual from Mr. Kessel. Some parts I don't think there'd be too much of a difference between them, worth a shot though. If you can help, I would appreciate it!

RE:started taking the 55 apart

Just wanted to give an update. Got parts ordered on Monday, but the clutch/pressure plate had to be sent off to be rebuilt. Was told it'll be 2-3 weeks before I get them back. So now I'm playing the waiting game, haha.

RE:started taking the 55 apart

Well finally started putting it back together today. Flywheel had to be turned (that was done this week) as the clutch was slipping so it left some grooves. Anyway, got the flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch/pressure plate, throw out bearing and bell housing remounted. Needed a new bearing return spring and it was supposed to have shipped with my other parts, but didn't find it. Don't know if I just forgot it when I picked up everything else or it wasn't shipped it all. Oh well, it happens. So now I am one step closer to having it all back together.

RE:started taking the 55 apart

Well finally got some time and help to put the 55 back together. Made considerable progress today. Got the motor set back in the frame, reconnected the hydraulics, put the radiator in, got the grille set back in, set the fuel tank on there but havent bolted it down yet. I am going to get some steel line to replace the rubber fuel hose with, will do that tomorrow. Other than putting all the fluids back in, we should be about ready to see if we fixed the problem. Im excited because its been sitting for 5 months and cant wait to hear her run again, but a little nervous too because I hope we fixed what was wrong. We shall see.
