I've never before seen a 744 or 745 in what we would call a "row crop" configuration with narrow front end.  Any idea if this was something unique to your area?

    John,

You haven't done your WINTER READING!!!!!!!!  Please see my book World Wide Guide to massey-Harris, Ferguson and early Massey Ferguson tractors.  The rowcrops mainly went to the African market but some went to other territories such as Auatralia.  Very few came on the British market.

Are you aware also that there was a long a sn short wheelbase version of the 744.  Mine, that you have seen, is long wheelbase and there were fewer of them.  They are easily distinguishable.  The batteries on the long sit lengthways; on the short the opposite

    Regards

    John

Re: share pictures of our Masseys

When I refer to the long and short wheelbases I am referring to the standard tractor - NOT rowcrops.  I have little experience of rowcrops - we have only 2 or 3 in the UK as far as I know.  I don't know if there were long and short types of the rowcrops.

As I said earlier mine is a long wheelbase and it is a standard tractor - non-adjustable wheel width which were the predominant type in the UK.  the length can be identified by the casting number on the chassis.  For the long wheelbase it is 9217A on the cast frame (on the LHS, gearbox end).  I can't remember what it was for the short wheelbase.  I was once told by Howard Hill I think - maybe this note will raise him.

It will be interesting to see what you have

    John.
