I have a 444 that had a part of the pinion tooth missing. I had another 444 back half that had good parts. Was putting everything back together and the ring gear looked different. The one from the donor tractor has 36 teeth and the pinion has 7 teeth. The one in the donee tractor has 9 and 42 teeth pinion and ring gear. According to the parts book, this is correct. The new set will work, but will make the tractor a little slower. I looked in my parts books for the 44 and 44 Special and they call for 9 and 42 teeth. I am wondering what the 7 & 36 really belong in, possibly a 44-6? It must have been something in which the engine ran a little faster I would think? Now I am going to have something different, but it'll be better than before with the broken tooth on the pinion shaft.
Thanks!
