Memories of Yesteryear

Been going through the many boxes of pictures I have in the closet and thought I would share some from the earlier years with the Massey People and some of the places the collecting hobby has taken us. I have not even begun to scratch the surface yet as there are probably 20 boxes yet to go not to mention some of the other 12,000 some pictures I have on the computer. It really saddens me as I am going through some of these to really realize just how many people I've met in the last 20+ years that are no longer with us. But I am very gratful for the fact that I gotten the chance to meet them in the first place. Of the 800+ members in the MCA I know I have not yet scratched the surface in meeting most of you in person yet but hopefully before it is my time to go I will get the chance to cross paths with most of you as I have yet to meet a bad true Massey Person.
If you have some pictures of the earlier years don't be afraid to post them on here. I am sure we would all love to see them!
The first picture here Is two people that played a big part of inspiring me to start collecting Massey's in the first place Keith Oltrogge and Steve Miller. The Wild Harvest magazine that Keith put out really put a spark in me years ago and I remember reading Steve's name in there many times over, long before I ever met either one of them in person. I'm glad I got the chance to meet them and glad to see they aren't afraid to have a little fun once in a while.
Here is Keith and Steve going for a little ride and Steve and I taking a little swing in Ohio before I had grey hair.

RE:Memories of Yesteryear

Here are a couple pictures I came across that most people would maybe want to just forget ever happened. The first is from the National Show in Ohio and the seconed is from our Massey Days show here in 2006. I saw this tractor one week before our show and it was all in pieces with the radiator in shambles and Dave Doane said it would be up and running for the show a week later. Well he was right and I was totally impressed with how nice it looked and as far as I am concened the paint job was just about as spot on as you will ever see. He got his grandaughter to make up a nice sign she was so proud of, just for the show and it looked really good.
Can you see what's wrong with these pictures?

Wow! Where has time gone? Here is a picture of Sandy Miller holding I believe Tim Pace's first Grandaughter. She is probably already off to College by now. The second picture is the Massey Harris sign being painted on the back of my lower shed by Mike Meyer and his helper, I'm sure you have seen this many times over the years since, in the backround of some of my pictures.

RE:Memories of Yesteryear

Here is a picture most may not think is really rare. It is not too uncommon to see the Wallis Bear sitting next to a Wallis Cub but I'm thinking this is probably the first time in 90+ years the Wallis Bear got to sit next to Two Wallis Cubs. This was at the 2005 National Show in Ohio.

RE:Memories of Yesteryear

Here are a couple young collectors looking to expand their collections at the Arlo Paxton sale. You may know them. One doesn't look much different if you seen him today, maybe a little spot of grey here and threre but the other....??? I have seen him on Classic Tractor Feaver and I think tough times set in with the Covid and he is gearing up to take over for the job of Santa Claus...

The second picture is for the Albrecht's. I believe this is the earliest picture I have of this tractor. This is also from the Arlo Paxton sale in 2005.

RE:Memories of Yesteryear

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the memories!!  It is crazy but I remember just about all of them.  I remember seeing the barn after it was painted. (It still looks good today).  I remember the Paxton auction and all the stories that blue tractor could tell.   Not sure who that other guy was but he is everywhere too!  And how did they miss my last initial - not once, but twice? Just remember - it is the thought that counts!!

Great pics and stories. I might have to drag out some old boxes as well but I did not take many pictures early on. I was just happy to be around people from around the world that I can now call my good friends!

Thanks

Gary

RE:Memories of Yesteryear

Hey, Joe,

Thanks indeed for the trips down memory lane.  Two young collectors looking to expand their collections?!?  One doesn't look much different but "a little spot of gray here and there"...   LMAO!!  It's nothing but gray now (or white)!!   I showed that photo to Marlene and she didn't recognize either one of those "young collectors".   LOL!!

I'm pretty sure I have some "entertaining" photos of our collector community.  Don't know when I might get around to looking for and/or scanning them.    But, I will put it on my to-do list.

Cheers,

JB

RE:Memories of Yesteryear

I found some pictures from the "Massey Weakend"  This was a get together that Vernon and Deanna Winterroth  set up for a visit to the Larry & Penny Weber collection/museum. It was a great time for everyone who attended, even got to drive a Massey Harris #3 if you wanted to. Malcolm Just amazing how these kids grow up on us don't know where the time goes...
