RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

My first encounter of M-H Type 1 gas engines was again at Mount Pleasant IA, the late Harold Woods from Central City IA and his 3HP type 1 engine and his friends the late Ken and Betty Teeter from Cedar Rapids IA, they travelled all over the world in their retirement, we met up often on both sides of the pond at various shows and auctions including the Dome Valley sale in 2007. They loved England and visted both John in Wales and myself in England, their favourite place was "The Lake District" in Cumbria, England.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

I hope a few more collectors post on here to remember as many Massey Collectors as possible from the last 25 years.

A very familiar face at almost every Massey event in the USA in the early years was Charlie Macdonald from IA. Charlie always arrived early with his favourite M-H manure spreader and always willing to help, unfortunatley I cannot seem to locate a photo of the late Charlie, but here is one I found of Linda, always seen with her camera at most Massey events.

I have a few more photo's from the USA Expo's and familiar faces to add before I move onto Canada and England, as we swiftly head towards the 2022 Milton Ontario Expo.

As we continue our journey throught to the big 175th Expo at Milton, another very enthusiastic Massey Collector I wish to remember is the late Larry Bachman from PA, unfortunatley I do not have a photo of Larry, but here are two of Bryan who always supported his fathers passion of all things M-H.

I can relate to driving a Pacemaker Orchard, it is quite fun!

This is Dennis Brown driving his Orchard red Pacemaker through the parade at Le Sueur many years ago.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

As Masssey Collector Memories from the past 25 years currently seem lost in the USA we will now move North of the border and look at the Canadian 150th Expo in 1997 and some of those dedicated Massey Collectors who are no longer with us who contributed to the growth of all the Massey Collector Clubs around the world.

To start with the driving force behind the milestone event was Farm Museum's Curator, the late Peter Ledwith. The early years of Massey collecting in Ontario owe so much to Peter, his enthusiasm and knowledge of locating historical artifacts from all over Canada, this brought together a memoarable museum collection and from this the M-H 150th event arose.

Peter is seen in these attched photo's showing me in 1996 the Museum's Pacemaker Orchard tractor donated from a local fruit farm on the Niagara Escarpment, also their Sawyer-Massey 20-40 gas tractor, it was Peter who enthused me enough to want to own one and he assigned the tractor to my care for the entire 150th show in 1997, that was enough encouragement for me to then want to own one, which I quickly achieved in 1998 across in Manitoba.

Pictured here enjoying the atmosphere of the 150th event in 1997 is the late Henry Roskilly from Devon in England, he travelled out for this special event together with many other trips across the Atlantic over the years. His last major M-H trip was the Dome Valley Museum Auction in March 2007.
Henry always had his camera with him, but rarely did he get into the shot, this photo is a great tribute to him and his enthusiasm for early tractors and the people who preserved them..

Malcolm,

For me anyway, your posts haven't gone unnoticed. I find the steel wheeled Pacemaker Orchard to be interesting, never seen one on steel before. Currently in Greensburg for the IMCA state show and creating memories that I hope to share in the next 25 years.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Pleased to see you and your tractor on here Dakota, glad you are enjoying the M-H journey over the last 25 years.

The late Peter Ledwith discussed in the previous post introduced John and myself to Jack Gordon from Newcastle, Ontario in 1996, Newcastle is what I term "the home of Massey" and the late Jack Gordon was Newcastle's local "historian". He was fascinating to talk to and his memory was execeptional on all Massey histrory in Canada.

Over the years John and I have spent a lot of time in Newcastle with Jack and always ended up for lunch at "The Massey Restaurant" in Newcastle.

Jack put on a fantastic display at the 150th Expo in Milton, then in  June 2001 the first "Massey Show" took place in Newcastle, I helped Jack set up his display and stayed with him for  this prestigous event for this small town steeped in early Massey history..
Jack and his wife Gloria is seen in one photo here receiving the award for the "Best Display" in his hometown of Newcastle, on the microphone is show organiser Myn Van Dyke.
