RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

More photo's from the "Home of Massey", you can see the redundent old factory building standing behind John and I in the 1996 photo, now it's fully refurbished into condiminiums on the first floor and shops on the ground floor.

Also photographed is Daniel Massey and other family members grave in the Cemetary at the next village of Bowmanville. (Intersting to note the late Jack Gordon ) showed us the old factory site in Bowmanville where the wooden wheel rims were made for the M-H bicycles in the late 1880's.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

The late Orland Reichert together with his son Ken and their lifelong passion of M-H put together exceptional displays at the 150th event in 1997. We had a wonderful visit with Orland and Laurabelle out at their farm in 1996.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

My own personal opinion, the "Massey Collector" who put the most effort and signifiacntly "the most important M-H history display" on at the 150th Expo was Ken Leatherdale.

He opened my eyes all those years ago to items of M-H that I never knew existed, thank you Ken and I hope you have a few special things to show us from your colletion this year at the 175th Anniversary Expo.

Seen here in the 1997 Expo parade on his green Challenger and later at the 2013 Paisley Expo on his British built 744, one of two in Ontario.

Now a few collectors who we have not seen in a very long time, who exhibited at the 150th Expo.

We hope many of them return again this year for the 175th Expo and we look forward and welcome all new and more recent "Massey Collectors" to come join in the big celebrations in Canada.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

I hope I have covered the Canadian 150th Expo in enough detail and build up to this years 175th Show in Milton which is just around the corner now.

Both John and I hope there is plenty of what is in the attched photo at the Expo, together with some fresh strawberries in the Canadian sunshine would really add to the atmosphere of another memorable event in the history of Massey.

Next week I hope to cover some of the 1997 English 150th Anniversary show and the people involved before this thread comes to an end at Milton.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Hey I recognize the feller on the 44 diesel!

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Now we will look back at our British 150th Anniversary Show in May of 1997.

There are many collectors and preservationists to remember who were instumental in this event happening 25 years ago, sadly many of them are no longer with us, some will be seen on photo's and I will try and mention other names.

The first one must be John Burge, who was a Director of Ferguson Heritage at the time and still working in the M-F factory at Banner Lane, Coventry, England. He called and asked if I would put on a show at my place for the 150th Anniversary of M-H, after a lot of thought my decision was to integrate this Anniversary Special within my local "Steam Engine Rally" at Carrington near Boston, at that time the tractor section was organised by the late Brian Pickwell, he guided me through his process and the UK M-H 150th was born and a great success, the rest is history as I became more involved wihin the organisation of this annual event now being run for 61 years.

Also the late Derek Hackett from Ross-On-Wye, Herefordshire gave me great enthusiasm and encouragement, he too brought a display of memorabilia, cast iron seats and signs to the event together with John Farnworth's excellent memorabilia and cast iron nameplate boards display from Wales, between the three of us we put together a great diverse show of M-H memorabilia.

The late Mr Robert Crawford Senior who at that time remembered vividly being a M-H agent in the 1950's, the event was on his farm so his enthusiasm brought out many rare items from his collection of implements, tractors and his original dealer signs, also his original embossed M-H Dealer's agreement and salesman lapel badge turned up to be seen, (the first ones of those I had seen in my earlier days of collecting M-H).

All the above and many others who are still in the hobby today were the support I needed to pull the event together, we had visitors from all corners of the UK, many from Europe and a few who travelled across from the USA.

The first photo is the late Ron Knight on his M-H 21 combine, Ron over the years became know as "The Combine King" here in UK restoring and working many different makes and models.

The late Alan Priestley on his British M-H 745 and 701 baler, a new restoration of both for this event, also Alan is seen on his 102 Junior Rowcrop widefront, another local traactor rescued from an early scrapyard in the Lincolnshire Fenlands.

The late Brian Chester with is M-H 101 Junior and grass mower.

The late Jiim Stephenson and his Australian import Sunshine 102 Junior.

The late Robert Crawford Senior, standing beside one of his favourite tractors "The 1898 Hornsby Oil Tractor" built in Lincoln England.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

A few more names to remember, the late Derek Mellor always a supporter of our show, seen here with the previously discussed Henry Roskilly on the back of Derek's restored British M-H 728 seed drill.
Also his wife Janet driving the M-H Pony owned by Alan Davies at our 150th event.

The next photo is a Ferguson Brown and early M-H cultivator which also came to our 150th event, the very enthusiastic owner and his wife all the way from Shropshire enjoyed our celebration. You may have seen recent photo's of ththis tractor and cultivator on here as both were purchased by the Farnworth family recently at the dispersal sale, amazing after 25 years these pieces of history come to life again. I am sure John will fill us in with the names of the owner in this photo, from my memory I am sure the man riding the cultivator was Nick Savage.

Another very enthusiastic collector, restorer and world traveller for many years after he retired from milking cows on his farm, John Simpson, he always supported our features from his vast collection of all makes, but his main focus and passion was David Brown, owning and restored an example of almost all models made before he passed away about a year ago. John is seen here with janet Mellor on one of the Wade Farm Tours trips in 1996 when we visited the Athabasca Glacier in the Columbian Icefields before heading to The Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwin Alberta and all the Canadian Western Development Museums at Saskatoon, North Battleford, Moose Jaw and Yorkton.
