RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

A few more photos from our UK 150th Show and some of the exhibitors who are still enjoying tractor collecting today.

The first photo is the Friends of Ferguson Heritage feature tent.

Part of the John Farnworth and Derek Hackett displays.

Alan Davies on his M-H GP (this tractor won the M-F competition for 'the oldest working M-H tractor in the UK' way back in he early 1990's then the tractor was owned by Frank Townshend) Now the tractor is part of the Oakham Treasures Collection.

Dave Harrison on his M-H OHV GP and chain lift plough, now the tractor is owned by John Bownes.

Simon Moore on Robert Crawford's M-H OHV GP and original UK M-H Pulverator Plough.

Robert Crawford Junior on the same combination.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Alan Sale has been supporting our rally from before 1997 and continues to this day, thank you Alan seen here on one of his early restorations a M-H GP which I remember seeing unrestored and no radiator in a Lincolnshire shed back in the early 1980's.

Brad Murduck on his M-H 12-20 another original British import and now owned by Nick Sanders.

Bernie Weaver on his M-H 203 pulling a Sunshine binder.

Bryan Bowles again still a loyal supporter at our event seen here on a 102 Junior pulling the late Ron Knight's original import M-H swather in 1997, a very rare machine here in England.

Two restored M-H implements from the Crawford collection for the 150th Anniversary, the rare M-H British disc plough and large field cultivator being ridden by a young Ashley Boyles, now 25 years on Ashley has his own very impressive I-H collection, it just shows what getting youngsters involved at an early age does for the continuation of the hobby.

Mike Adamson and his newly restored red Pacemaker, styled 25 and Dickie hay turner for the 150th celebration.

Dave Wollerton with his local M-F 35 and M-H plate and flicker fertiliser distributor, Dave now 80 years young continues to support our themes each year and he was enthusiastic to be part of this years 175th celebrations too with his local M-F 135 and M-F fertiliser spreader, he enjoyed recieving his MCA medallion and pin badges which came from the USA, he said they would join all his 150th memorabila.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

I bet the 97 turns some heads over there!

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Dakota,

Yes that M-F 97 was an import from the USA by it's owner in the mid 1990's, there are not many of them over here, just a few brought across in recent preservation times.

To finish off my personal memories of our British 150th Anniversaruy Show in 1997 I have saved this photograph for the last one.
This British built M-H 744 "Bracey Conversion" attended our event in 1997, since then I have only seen it out once, it is a very rare piece of British M-H history and always reminds me of the more common "Doe Triple D" when two Fordson Major's were joined together for more power and I know several conversions of this type were done on various makes of tractor in North America.
This Bracey 744 is the only one I know of existing in the UK.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Over here in the states we call tractors hooked together, tandems, or at least I do anyway, haha. I always find them interesting and usually I find at least one at a show. I wanna see somebody hook two 97s together.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Just one last snippet from our 1997 150th Anniversary Show, included in the Saturday Auction there was a local M-H 744 entered from north Lincolnshire, the owner not wanting to miss a great opportunity for Massey enthusiasts being at the auction from around the country.

This long wheel base 744 was bought on the day by Bob Parke, that was "the start of his Massey-Harris collection" and several of you have met him on both sides of the Atlantic and been to his shows over here in rural Norfolk.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

1937 and their 90th Anniversary Massey-Harris came up with the great words
"The Sun Never Sets on Massey-Harris".

1997 and the 150th Anniversary Don Snyder came up with
"Masseys Collect The Nicest People".

2022 and the 175th Anniversary, I hope everyone gets thinking and someone comes up with some appropriate words.

As tthe Expo is almost upon us now as we head to Canada, the last person I want to mention and surprised no one in the "Massey World" has made reference to him on this thread.
Back in 1997 at the Racine Expo I remember Don Snyder being the driving force behind getting MCA instigated and started, his enthusiasm and driving force at those 1997 events sparked the "Massey Collecting World's" enthusiasm which we hope continues for many more years to come. I am sorry I cannot find a photo of Don to post here, but I am sure someone will, just to keep his Massey Memory alive "Masseys Collect The Nicest People".

Also attached the photo's of the Racine 150th Anniversary cake, and I hope someone in Ontario has repeated this "one off special treat" for the 175th.

And to conclude I just want to add a random selection of photo's of the great friendhsips we have made through Massey over the last 25 plus years in all parts of the world, as Derek Hackett told me in my early years of travelling to the USA with him,

"It's not just the tractors and old iron we get to see, we meet some wonderful people along the way"

Have a Great 175th Expo in Ontario, Canada.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

Malcolm,
This is a pretty awesome thread you have started here! Sorry I've not participated as I should have, I been running too much lately and have had no time to dig through pictures of some very deserving people that should be listed on here. I think it is pretty funny how the color of our hair has changed in the last 25 years...Just got back from a very wet and muddy show in Wisconsin. Although the rain was very intense it didn't stop us from having a great time under the tent talking tractors and the good times we have spent in good company for the last 25 years.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

And Yes - I remember the first time I met Steve and Sandy was in the bar at the Mohawk Motel, Milton where we were staying for the 150th anniversary Expo there.  One of the best Expos ever I think due in large part to the excellent organisational skills of the museum's curator Peter Ledwith now sadly no longer with us.  In those days sveral large MH collectors used to show their wares there but most have now sadly dispersed their collections due to age.

Peter gave myself and Malcolm a good number of MH enthusiats in Ontario to contact and we are still in contact with many of them today.  Steve and Sandy have become great friends and over the years have helped Malcolm and I to pull together our various tractor and implement purchases, store them temporarily for us then assist us getting them laoded into containers back to the UK.  Friends like these are few and far between.  Thank you all.

Sadly the Old Mowhawk has closed, apparently been re built but never been re-opened.  We will investigate further when we are at the Expo this next week.  It's a sad loss to the MH community as we all used to stay there when there were Expos in Milton.  The place had a lot of character and a good restaurant - now we are reduced to a bland Holiday Inn in Milton.  We had hoped to stay there again this year as it marks 25 years of visting Canada and the USA.

RE:1997-150th to 2022-175th Massey Harris Anniversary Memories and the Collectors we have met.

It's still 2022, so the year is not over yet! Thought I would bring this thread back up as there are still alot of memories to be posted yet from the last 25 years.
Here is  a man I haven't seen for some time now but is in my mind one of the best Massey people I have ever met! Dennis Volling was very influentual in all the Massey Days Reunions. He made it a very fun event every time with his big smile and great personality just an all around great guy. Had alot of great memories from him in the last 25 years.
