RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

I am pleased to see the GP Four Wheel Drive thread re-started thanks to Joe Poncelet and Joe Mayer.
I was looking through an old album of Massey related photos and came across four advertizing pages for the industrial GP's . I have seen a couple of these on this site before but not  for the airport applications, really wide wheels and 9 mph top gear.  I don't recall where I got these pages.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Hi Alan,

I'm glad you are enjoying this thread. I recently picked up a set of  "Golf Course wheels" can't wait to get them mounted up on a tractor. As for the tractors with the 9 MPH gears I believe they were only put in the "Industrial" tractors wich is the narrowest GP of them all. I don't know if these wheels would work on them as I believe  they would hit the engine when turning.

I do have an "Industrial" tractor in my collection but have not had it running yet so don't know if it is equiped with the 9 MPH gear or not??

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Thanks Alan, really good of you to share your info.
Learned a lot from those items.
I have come to increasingly admire the hard work and perseverance it must have taken to market and sell in the aftermath of the 1929 market crash.  Anyone else have items of interest to post?

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

I have had a little fun recently with our dear friend Mr. Poncelet.  I called him up to tell him I finally bit the Bullet and purchased my first G P.  During the conversation Joe told me he had a road trip coming up ( down ? ) to Arizona to pick up a G P.  To myselfI I thought you silly Goose, heading to Arizona to pick up a G P, because the G P I bought is an hour from your house. I guess having such a nice G P ( see the pictures ) is worth the drive.  Congrats to you Joe for filling out the "Set".  Tim     PS Is it running yet ?

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Tim, the GP from Arizona is comming along the engine is ready to be put back on just need to finish making wheel seals and get it fitted with the new wheels first.
Here is my latest addition to the GP collection I picked up two weeks ago. It was in good running order until it went through a barn fire. It too will be back on it's feet again soon as I get some time to play with it. It is tractor # 302302-66

Tim
The Arizona GP is starting to take shape and look like a tractor again, only 32" between the wheels.  The engine is near ready to bolt back on then just trinket stuff. Too hot here to get anything done lately...

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Well Joe, as always you never cease to amaze me. You are definitley in the git-r-done mode. It helps too, that you have a two century supply of parts.  A Fan, and extention cord would help with the heat. Congrats, will be a showpiece people will talk about for a long time!!!!  Tim
