Drew,

Well done on the translation - this site is just choc-a-bloc with talent!

Joe,
'
Have checked through my photos and that one of the belly of a blue tractor is mine and a copy of my photo!  Don't know how you came upon it - maybe from me or Malcolm??

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

John:

I know that picture was of your tractor. You sent me a disc of all the pictures you took of it when you first were unloading it from the container so I got to see what it looked liked before you ran it through the Beauty Salon to make it look like it does today.

Drew:

For width of the tractors, in the one from France "the Distillate one" the picture may not be very clear but you can see the drop housing comming out of the right side of the transmition just above the top of the right wheel and it appears to be the same as John's. and for the second one I am just going on a gut feeling and my years of expierence of being a GP SearchAndScoutologist. If I were a betting man I would put my money on it being the Narrowest 40 inch tractor.

This was the reason for posting these pictures on here for everyone to see... I need some feedback from others to help see things that I may have missed and start some good chatting about the sport we all love....

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Now for the question you may be wondering " How do I know if it is a Distillate or not?"

I am sure there were many Flathead Distillate tractors made but you just don't see them too often or at least not in this part of the Country.  I know there were spots like Nebraska or New Zealand that were more dominate with Distillate tractors. I don't know if the price of fuel in these areas was higher at the time or if was just a preference thing.

Here is a picture of a Distillate manifold on a Flathead tractor verses the regular gas manifold. Also the hood is about 4 & 1/2 inches shorter to acommidate for the larger three section fuel tank ( Water, Distillate and Gas ) and then there is the Heat control for the driver to control the heat of the manifold.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Now for that ProtoType I mentioned earlier, for years now this tractor has intrigued me as I could not figure out what type of engine was in it. After blowing up the pictures and studying them more closely I really believe this is a 6 cylinder Hercules engine in this tractor. This would make sence as if they tried the six cylinder first and it was too heavy so they went with the four cylinder. The hand crank out the front looks like some I have seen on early Hercules power engines.

I believe this is one of the very first prototypes of the GP it has adjustable front and rear axels just loosen the bolts and slide them where you want them. Also the Steering tierod pipe has adjuster locks with sliders, Just loosen the lock nut and slide it where you want it.  It has the Wallis type aircleaner on it also the 4 bar steering wheel. The steering colum has a lower hole position for when using it from an Impliment behind.  I have never seen wheels like these ever....

If you look close at the picture from the l right rear it appears to have 6 spark plugs sticking up also the hood is much longer than any others. The distributer cap is sticking up by the water pump on the left side of the engine just like a JXD Hercules would. There is a rod going from left side of the battery box that looks like it is for turning the timing or possibly it is a pipe with a wire running through it to power the points in the distributor from the battery.

Malcolm, you need to take a magnifine glass and look closely at the right side of the engine on your brochre or possibly get a good close up scan or good photo to see if this is a 6 cylinder Hercules engine as the picture you posted was of the same tractor as this one.

The rear end it self looks like it is out of a Harry Ferguson. And the picture just wouldn't be right without a Massey Harris Watch Fob hanging out of your pocket now would it.....These are just a few of the things I noticed, so look closely at the pictures and let me know what I missed

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

AAA HAA!!

I found my picture of the Yuma GP and they are the same lugs and the Industrial I posted earlier. Although this tractor is toward the end of the flathead production John your tractor is still the highest Serial Number "302915"  toward the 3,000 made that I know of.

John, maybe this pretty blue sky and warm sand will chear you up a bit from your cold snowy blues...

Don't know why but the  Reply Button has been dissapearing for me but it seams to work if you just go back a couple posts til you find one and click on it there.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Joe - the Yuma lugs don't look to have the offset pattern that your very first narrow steel wheeled previous post GP had.  The Yuma lugs are all in a line.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Drew:

They are just turned arround they were made like this so you could position them either in or out or offset.

Glad to see you on here as you made the Reply button appear again for me!!!

I thought someone with higher powers was sick of listening to me ramble on about GPs and turned it off on me.
