RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Well I dont have much to add as the GP's have not been of a big interest to me unless they are 48" or narrower.
I did just buy some parts for a 48" in wisconsin last week. Looks like and early one to me.
and somebody was trying to add som brakes to it!

Here is another picture of the one red g.p. joe thought was a narrow one. looks like a 48 to me.

Here is another picture of the serial number tag on a g.p. I saw in CA to add into the serial number tag debate this one happens to be a 48" probably why I have a picture of it!

These are not 48's but they are in Minnesota, well one of them is just very close to MN about 5 miles from here.

Tom:

You are right I was just doing some research and found more pictures of this tractor and was just going to post that picture but see you beat me to it. It is a 48 Inch and not a 40 Inch. Good thing I am not a betting Man....

Here is the other picture I found of the same tractor, it has some sort of fender brackets on it and also a home made PTO lever that would work better than standing between the wheels.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Here is a very Unique find...It is the very first Massey Harris GP Overhead valve tractor that was produced. It is Serial Number 303001-60 and here is a picture of it being awoken from it's resting spot of many years.

The tractor is now fitted with rubber bolt on wheels and last I heard the guy was looking for a steering gear. Don't know why he needed a steering gear as in one of the pictures I have of it the gear looks in tact to me???

Joe,

That really is an interesting find.  Do you think those mudguards are original?  Somehow they look as if they are ...................???

In the meantime here is a photo-diagram of the transmission arrangement on a GP which may be informative to many

John:

Yes the Mudgaurds/Fenders are original from the factory. The man restoring it has them off right now to straighten them and I believe he is going to put them back on but am not sure about that as he took the original lugs off and replaced them with rubber for what ever reason I don't know. I don't think he plans to paint it any perticular color but is going to put it in a museum

Nice picture of the gearing on the GP.. I noticed it also has the stub nosed rear end in that picture. I wonder what the reason is for the short nose verses the long nose??
