Now this is an interesting piece of cast iron.  This is a reach socket from a wooden wheel wagon. It is near the center of the wagon that allows you to lengthen and shorten the wheelbase.   I show two pictures because there is a slight difference!!!  Which picture is correct??  I purchased one way but when it arrived it was a different look!!

It is still a nice piece of cast iron from old ago!!

This is a neat set of cast iron handles that was once used on walk-behind horse equipment.  Definitely not a cold weather accessory!!

Probably one of the nicer pieces I have in the collection is the cast iron bag cart.  Again, it is nice original and the labeling can be read on both sides.

Interesting that your bag cart has both Massey-Harris and Verity marked on it.  I have two carts - one is Massey-Harris and the other Verity.  Is yours possibly an "inbetween" type when M-H had just taken over Verity I wonder?

Here is a Massey-Harris sprayer pump used to pump the chemical water mix to a spray boom or hand lance.  Complete sprayer units could be mounted on horse carts or made up as a specific horse drawn unit.  This pump would have been hand operated - a man required to pump it all day long standing on a cart, a man to guide the horse (or maybe an automatic one controlled by whistle and shout!) and another to operate the spray lance up to the fruit trees.

I am pleased to see through this Global MCA website discussion we are making progress in achieving your focus on your own M-H items, I am surprised you had not noticed the difference in your two vises, guess you still have a touch of that "green and yellow" influence in you, which is distracting your attention to the finer M-H detail!!!


Anyway here is another M-H vise display which was seen at the 2011 Newark indoor tractor show, another British supplied vise with the casting bump and nicely displayed with a French 820 Pony by an enthusiastic M-H gas engine collector from Somerset.

I have never seen any dates on the cart but I had to buy it when I saw both Verity and MH on the handles.  I have seen others but most of the lettering had been worn off years ago,  So when did the two companies come together??

It is kind of crazy all the information collectors are learning from the website.  I would still have my Black & Decker drill sitting in a basket somewhere if it were not for your sharing the MH connection on it.  It quickly got cleaned up and came into the Massey Room!!  (I might have to post it on the barn equipment thread!)

The vises are in the same boat.  I just figured I had two MH vises.  I even offered one to sell one to one of our favorite collectors here in Indiana.  Guess I need to take that offer off the table!!

Can you share anymore info about the dates of the vises and the variations.  It looks like some of the bodies on your vises are somewhat tapered.  Are they or is it just a picture disception.  Mine are both box or square bodied.

M-H purchased 40% of Verity shares in 1892 - 1 year after Massey merged with Harris.  In doing this world marketing rights were acquired by M-H.  The company merged with M-H as a subsidiary or affiliated firm.  Verity were based in Exeter, Ontario.  All on page 28 Masseylegacy Volume 1!!  Verity were famous for their ploughs.

The photo shows a Verity spanner which I had in only yesterday.  One I had been after for a long time.  They usually make in excess of 100$ but I was lucky!!
