MF 100/1000 Series Steering Wheels??

Does anybody know where you can now get a replacement steering wheel for the 100/1000 Series Massey Ferguson tractors?   Or someplace that can refurbish at existing steering wheel?

Has anyone found a process to refurbish a steering wheel that has sat outside so long that it turns your hands black everytime you use it?

I have been asked these questions frequently, and I am now also in need of the same for a couple of my tractors.

Thanks,

JB

RE:MF 100/1000 Series Steering Wheels??

Hi JB,
Presumeably you are located in the US rather than the UK ?
Most MF 100 series tractors used the same steering wheel between models, same for the MF 1000/1005 series.
If you are close to a local Agco Dealer, you could ask them to pull up their tractor parts database, and compare the same item between models, as one can do with hard copy parts books, just to prove the point.
MF 760/860 combines have same steering wheel as MF 1000/1005 tractors, including the 1080/1085 models.
There is a firm in the UK that refurbishes tractor steering wheels but if you're US based, that's a bit of a long shot I guess.

Mr. Bush, Tim Pace at this end. Years ago there were 2 Guys in Minnesota that were refurbishing older Steering Wheels ( I do not know how new they went ). They were bought out by Dennis Polk, and prices doubled if not more. After a time of no-compete, I saw they were at it again. Our Resident Minnesotan, and all around OK Guy , Mr. Poncelet may be of some help here. I'm not much help, but I have shared what I know. Dennis Polk may still be doing this as well.

John,

Surley an MF dealer would source one?  In the UK here you could try AGRILINE which you will find on the web.  Also what about tractor scrap yards??

Good luck

John,
Very simple and cheap fix. I just hold a piece of cardboard on one side of the steering wheel to prevent overspray and shoot it with clear coat paint. let it soak in and dry and you will never get black hands again. I've done this many times and it lasts for years.

Joe,

That is a very interesting idea!  I think I would probably hit the old wheel with laquer thinner a few times to make sure the clear coat sticks.  I'm going to give it a shot on my MF 1100 LP steering wheel.  If a little over-spray escapes, it won't be a big deal since the whole tractor needs a repaint anyway.

Thanks!

RE:MF 100/1000 Series Steering Wheels??

I've been told that the later MF 760 and 850 combines used the same steering wheel.  Perhaps find a derelict one of these with a cab that has protected the steering wheel over the years and you can get a decent replacement steering wheel??

Just thought I'd share this idea.
