Massey Harris Factories

Could I make a plea, as I have done privately to many Massey enthusiasts in the past, for someone in North America to get the Massey Harris factories in Canada and the USA documented before  their history is lost forever. It is a great sadness that this has not been done to date.  I have done thie for Massey in the UK and all that it needs is a bit of dedication to the cause before all the old MH hands depart us.  I am sure that, for instance, a great deal of information could be collected around Racine.  The same applies to the old Canadian factories in Canada.

Alas my pleas have so far fallen on deaf ears!!!!  But I hope that some folks can rise to the cause.  May I suggest some articles for the Massey Legacy magazine and/or the Massey Collectors Association Clipper magazine.  I am sure that contributions no matter how brief would be well received.  In the mean time a Happy Xmas and New Year to one and all..

RE:Massey Harris Factories

John,
We may have a bit of good news! I was in contact with Gary Napiwocki the other day and he told me the Wisconsin Chapter may have a new member joining. In his email he wrote:

"I live in Racine, My Grandfather worked at the Massey Harris plant here from 1939 to 1959. My uncle tells me that his dad built a Model 101 in 1944 which he owned for a while and then sold in 1946.

We now own a little farm near Racine and I would love to get a 1944 Model 101 and learn all that I can about the 101s built in that year.

on a separate note in my business I acquired all the Massey Properties in Racine back in 1993. I still own some of them and redeveloped and sold the others. How can I join and connect with all of you?"

Many thanks!
Jeff Neubauer

I spoke with Gary and he said Jeff may possibly be interested in letting the Wisconsin chapter possibly come and visit the old site and have a look inside what he still ownes. Possibly we could have a gathering there or something. Time will tell, maybe you could find a loose brick from one of the buildings??
Hope this developes into a future visit, fingers crossed.

Joe,

That really is a tremendous pice of news!  I hope that you will successfuly nurture these contacts.  And a brick to add to my MH factory brick collection would be the icing on the cake!

Wishing everyone across the pond a very happy and fruitful Massey New Year.
