Tie Rods?

All - I've got a Massey Harris 44 Special with a wide front end, the tie rod ends are pretty bad -- you can't drive in 5th gear on the road and keep it on the road. Anyone found replacement ends? I'm presuming they match something in the auto parts stores -- but just not sure what yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Kevin

RE:Tie Rods?

I ran into the issue of trying to find tie rods for my 44. Somewhere online there was a discussion on what else would work and someone suggested using tie rods for a AC WD45. I bought a set (they are slightly heavier) and they do fit my 44 with some reaming. Take a look at Steiner tractor parts, their part number ACS066. You would need a 7 degree tapered reamer as stated. Maybe these would also fit a 44 Special? Good Luck.

RE:Tie Rods?

That is great news, thank you! Did you have to do anything other than the reaming? Since this is a loader tractor, having them heavier would be a good improvement.

RE:Tie Rods?

On the smooth rod that slides into the tube, I increased the diameter by running a few beads of welds lengthwide on it so if fit tighter when clamped.
