Malcolm,

Here is a video of the oiling system working like planned.. It was better until I clicked on the button for taking out the shakiness of the video now as you watch it the rocker arms appear to sway back and fourth... but it is dripping perfectly...

Sweet music.  That has to feel pretty good, Joe!

RE:Wallis Tractors

WELL DONE JOE

I bet your as fussy as a dog with two tails at the moment, coming up from the low point of the restoration to this point is exciting and now you will enjoy each start up and working out the bugs even more, the tractor too will respond better and better, the more they are run the better they like it, belt it up to that threshing machine for a day!!!

Really liked the video of your top end oiling system, those new valve springs and push rods will enjoy the lubrication too.

Malcolm.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Congrats Joe,   No doubt that hearing it fire after such a long sleep just kind of makes you feel a little giddy inside.  We all should start calling you Mr. Wizard, aka the wizard of Wallis.  I look forward to phoning you soon with a question and saying Help Mr. Wizard!!!!  Deja Vu or what?    Tim

RE:Wallis Tractors

The tractor sounds good Joe. It is always nice when you bring one back to life. I made a similar oiling system on my Massey 25. It was fairly simple, kind of makes you wonder why the engineers back in the day didn't figure that out sooner than they did. It sure beats taking the valve cover off and oiling every time you start the tractor.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Tim,

I hope I have inspired you to get working on your Cub Jr.... It took me three years to get this one up and going, so if you start right now on yours you will have it running for Massey Days in 1919... If you get yours going by then I could bring my three down and park them next to yours and by then Tom may have his going so we could set a record with the most Cub jrs in one place for about 100 years!!

I already ordered a new gas tank from Ervin but didn't have much to do the last couple days so I thought I would get some practice on the original tank. As you can see in the pictures it was a real leaker. I cut the bottom out with the plasma cutter and made a new bottom, not the best looking job but I think it will work.

When I got this tractor it had white paint on the left side of the radiator, hood and gas tank where someone many years ago got handy with the bomb can. This must have been when paint was paint as I couldn't take it off with a wire brush so when I was sandblasting the inside of the gas tank out I blasted the paint off the side of the tank. This worked pretty good so I thought I would give it a try on the hood and when I got it done I was really surprised when I took the hood outside as now you can see very faintly the original decal that says Wallis Tractor Co. that made my day as I never new it was there before.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Good job on the tank refurbishment Joe, also interesting to note the original "Wallis" lettering you found on the side of the hood is not in the centre.

John went on Saturday to check progress in the "Wallis machine shop" here is a photograph of the progress so far on the complete new steering gear. Billy has been putting in a few hours on this project during the last month, fantastic work.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Malcolm,

Wow that steering gear looks pretty good! Is this for your second Cub jr? I thought the one you had was in pretty good shape..

The original Wallis decal I found on my Cub jr hood starts way to the left because it says Wallis Tractor Co and is centered all the way across the hood from what I can tell. I always thought when they had "Wallis" only on the hood they were in the middle but if you look at this picture it is way to the left as though they dropped the "Tractor Co" from it.

The decals on my big Cubs say "Wallis Tractor Co" I didn't measure it but this is about the size decal for the Cub jr hood as the hood is shorter. After looking through some brochures on the Cubs it appears they should say 'Wallis Tractor Co. Racine, WIS." so these decals on my Cubs may be a bit incorrect??

Back to the Gas tank, I figured as long as I got the whole bottom off the tank I might as well sand blast it out and hand paint the tank sealer on the upper part of the tank. I left the bottom 4-5 inches so when I welded the bottom on it would not burn the sealer. Once I finished welding the bottom on I power washed it out and dried it in front of the stove with the vacuum cleaner hooked to the filler neck to make sure I get all the moisture out.

Now for bottom and final sealing, I don't know how many people on here have sealed tanks but the biggest problem I have found is trying to see what you are doing inside the tank while trying to rotate the tank and hold the flashlight and peak through the filler hole . I literally came up with a bright Idea for this! I took a rear tail light socket out of an old Dodge and extended the wires and hooked it up to my battery charger to drop in the hole. Now I have great lighting inside the tank with only two small wires in my way and plenty of room to see what I am doing in there. Here are some pics of the inside of the tank with lighting.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Well the gas tank patching and sealing was a success and seems to be holding good. I got the clutch adjusted to where I think it will work good now and the hood and front bear stand on and looking good.

Got it out of the shop yesterday and running pretty good now, If it ever warms up someday I need to take it out and hook it up to the dyno and work it a bit but for now I could just sit on a chair and listen to it idol for a couple hours...

Here are a couple pictures and a video.
