RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

I seen this mower yesterday too. Is this one of the mowers like you were talking about John and Malcolm?

RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

Tom - well done - it is another variant of the Harris Brantford Mowers.  Get it bought if only for the cast iron gearbox cover.  That's the  fourth in what appears to be a very closely related series of mowers

RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

Not exactly cast iron but here is a nice piece that I picked up in Canada this summer from George Smyth.  He had not sold this pair of tyres at his sale last year.  They used to stand outside his office.  The larger tyre is Massey-Harris and the smaller, probably off a side rake is Massey-Harris-Ferguson.

RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

Here's a nice substantial piece of cast iron that I  found in Canada this summer.  It is, I think, a front from one of the Massey-Harris turnip choppers - but I am not absolutely sure so maybe someone can confirm.

Here's a nice little itme and I haven't a clue what it is - but it does have the <M-H> stamped in it.

RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

John,

I believe your mystery piece is an end off a Massey Harris Whipple tree.

RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

John,

I just saw your find and I agree with Joe that it is an tug hook off a whipple tree (or single tree in the US).  You would hook the trace (or tug) chains into the hook that was attached to each end of the single tree.  The trace or tug chains traveled from the collar and hames down the side of the horse in harness.  It was the connecting point from the horse to the implement.

Single trees were then attached together to make double trees, triple trees and more.

I will take some pics of mind when the snow stops blowing around here #$%^&*!!!!!

Glad to see you are getting into heavy horse equipment!!  You would look good on top of one of those show wagons!!

Enjoy!!

Gary

RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

Thanks Joe and Gary - I have been a bit dumb not realising what it was as I have a part of a whipple tree hung up in the shed.

Today's offering is a piece of the towing linkage for a larger horse plough I believe.  The  <M-H> is clearly visible but the part number is no longer clear

John

With all this horse gear you are gathering it may have been better if you had invested in a team of horses instead of a 55.

I must say it looks very nice in the pictures. Does the flame heater on it work? I was interested to see where the coil for it was mounted. On my 44 it is high up on the block just under the Cylinder head. Mine doesn't work and I have just asked for help as to how I am going to get it to work. A new coil I suppose but I am not sure if any coil would do.

RE:Cast Iron M-H Memorabilia

Tom,

Hope by now you have added the Brantford Mower to your collection? If I recognise the location correctly it's not too far from home??? well worth adding to your implement collection.

John posted the photo of his M-H tyre (tire) display well here is the other half, and picture of it last year when Alan sat beside it enjoying the Canadian atmosphere, so hopefully when you vist either the Eastern or Western UK collections you will be able to pull up a chair Alan, just in time for an ice cream!!!

Malcolm.
