M-H Wrench Identification

Hey Folks,

I've been sent this photo of a Massey-Harris M 555 wrench, asking me what it was used for.  I'm sure one of you wrench collectors out there can identify it, and let us know.

Thanks,

JB

I believe it's for a Massey Harris horse drawn hay mower.

And from memory there is five different variations of that same wrench (spanner here in England). Just different lettering configuration on the five variations.

Check out the M-H wrench book written by Alan Harris.

The lug on the end is for opening the connecting rod jaws which then enables the rod to slip over the ball on the knife when putting the knife in place.

Yes Malcolm is right and they are one of the commonest old MH spanners to be found in the UK

Thanks guys!  I thought it was a mower wrench/spanner, but wasn't sure if the number tied it to anything specific.

Cheers,
