Mecum auction

Mecum's spring auction is in Davenport this weekend and was just looking at some of the tractors that have sold so far. There was a 1915 Wallis Cub Model D that sold for 231,00 dollars. Wow! Wish I would've been there in person to see it.

RE:Mecum auction

The Cub was owned by Duane Junck of Kingsley, Ia. There were 3 active onsite bidders late in the bidding, One of the 3 got the tractor but not sure who. It may have stayed in the states. It was the high selling tractor of the sale.

Sorry, I can't figure out how to rotate the photos, Maybe Gary can change them.

RE:Mecum auction

Guess I'm worth alot more than I thought I was... Only problem is I have to have an auction to collect, but then I wouldn't have anything to play with now would I...

RE:Mecum auction

Wow Joe, I figured you hadn't sobered up yet. That was quick.  I had made plans to attend Friday but got sidetracked. I did watch the auction on youtube, and could not believe that once the bidding started, it didn't stall.  Somewhere around $200,000 the auctioneer said there were 3 of you bidding, but only one of you is going to own it (Cub ).  When bidding ended the auctioneer said Thank you George, so I assume George Schaff was the buyer.  All three are very comforable money wise. I just cannot imagine being in the position that if I want it I can buy it no matter the cost.  I do however have a Wallis Cub Head in my Machine Shed.  Yes Tom, I know you own it and I picked it up for you, but I can dream!!!!

RE:Mecum auction

Wayne, I take it you were there in person? I still cant believe that tractor went for that much. Wonder if that's a new record? I watched it live today on RFDTV and was also pleasantly surprised to see a Massey 555D come across the block and it sold for somewhere around 13 grand I think.

RE:Mecum auction

Lots of very impressive prices in yesterday's auction.  I haven't looked at Saturday's results yet.  Still, in spite of all the top dollar items on Friday, the one that blows me away is a simple little 1994 MF35 Gas Deluxe for $27,300!?!  Explain that one to me.  The only thing I can come up with is a dispute between two family members who inherited more money than they did sense, and had to settle an argument over who got the family MF 35...   Any other ideas???

RE:Mecum auction

Dang type.  It was a 1964 MF 35....

RE:Mecum auction

The 35 was very nicely restored but otherwise nothing rare about it . Don't know why it brought so much money.
The 555 was also a very nice restoration.

RE:Mecum auction

Seems that $4.50 Corn, and $14.00 Soybeans brought new life into prices.  The really high prices are compliments of the Mecum "Click".  Several times I have seen prices that do not match the tractor , with prices being pushed by Click Members.  These Signs are nuts, no other way to put it.  I do believe we are on the verge of a correction , then away we go some more.  I am on a couple of sign pages on Facebook, and Signs bring incredible prices. Quality Farm signs can demand their prices they want, and get it.  The last things I want to say about the Cub selling.  The Cub sold for the price of a new House.  Let that soak in, the price of a new House.  Where has so many people come up with so much money?  Has anyone ever heard who did purchased the Cub?  Happy Trails,  Tim Pace
