RE:Wallis Tractors

Finally got my two Wallis Tractors home yesterday I bought back in the first part of January. The 20-30 as you can see is in very poor shape as it mistakenly went to the scrap yard and got busted up a bit then retrieved back.

The only reason I wanted it is I because In the picture the block number was what I thought was 61208. It did not have the serial tag on it but If you add 471 you would get 61679.  I thought it would be a great addition to my collection as I thought it was a consecutive serial number of one of my other 20-30s having SN 61678.

After getting it home and looking closer at the Serial number it reads 6120E the 3 is backwards and I it appeared as an 8 to me in the picture I saw earlier but after looking closer someone put the number die in backwards 89 years ago, bummer.... So it is now 5 serial numbers off from my tractor making it SN 61674 not 61679 Oh well there are still a lot of parts I can use..

RE:Wallis Tractors

After looking over the other Wallis tractor on my load (the 15-27) I noticed something I have not noticed before. The frame is not stamped under the oval serial tag like most all other Wallis tractors are. I looked at my other 15-27 in the shed and it was the same way, no stamping on the frame, Hu??

Also I noticed the number 3 8 stamped on the block where it looks like there should be a water neck outlet machined about in the area of the earlier model Ks. I looked at my other tractor in the shed and it is also stamped 3 8 Hu?

John, Malcolm, Graham and other owners of a model 15-27 you will have to see if your tractors are stamped with the serial number below the oval tag and also look to see if you have a number 3 8 on the left front boss of your block. Don't  have any Idea what the 3 8 could stand for. any ideas?

Joe

It seems that tractors before the 20-30 don't have the serial number stamped below the tag. So if the tag is missing you have to trust the engine is original.
I have looked at our 15-27 and a 20-30 that has a 15-27 engine and they both 3 8 stamped on the block.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Been a while since there has been any Wallis activity on here so I thought I would post this. I finally after 18 years got the original plow that was sold new with a Wallis tractor I have in my collection Serial # 61369.

Byron Amundson from only five miles away got this tractor brand new in Minneapolis, MN back in 1929 and purchased this plow with it at the time. He sold the tractor back in the 50s to a scrap man who sold it to a collector the next day. This tractor sat in his woods until I bought it from him in 1999 but this plow never left Byron's farm since new until today when I picked it up. I have had my eye on this plow for many years now and now after it being away from the tractor for over 65 years it is now within 100 feet of the tractor, pretty cool huh? I also have the original Certified Certificate for this tractor in the original paper sleeve that hung on the steering wheel when Byron picked it up at the factory in Minneapolis. Although the tractor is still stuck and needs a lot of TLC I hope I can get it running someday before Byron's son Lyle who is in his 60s can see it run before he passes away and maybe even take the plow around the field a lap or two.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Alan,

It is a Massey Harris # 3 with the furrow lift there are a couple floating around the country but most have been sent to the scrap man many years ago. This one even has the spring loaded hitch with the original hitch coupler not often seen.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Thanks Joe.
It looks as though you have got a very nice plow there.
It would be good to see some photos of the Wallis and plow, plowing when you have them both restored !!!

RE:Wallis Tractors

Very nice to see them paired up together again Joe, now for the challenge!!!

Expect by the time we visit in October you should have your corn and oats harvested, it would be just great to turn some MN furrows with that tractor and plow before heading back to UK, hope you can find a bit of time to get her running this summer and the plow brightened up so we can fulfil our dreams!!!

RE:Wallis Tractors

Malcolm,

This will not be a put some gas in give it two flops situation here... Although this tractor is very complete it has not been ran in just about 70 years now and will need some serious work before I hear exhaust music. This tractor has been sitting outside until I got it in 1999 out of the woods. The plow on the other hand has stood the test of time pretty well considering it was in the cow yard since before I was born.
