Try again to get the original photo of the 1919 trails. This website does not like mobile phones!!! Alan

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Thank you Alan for starting the coverage of this years event at Casterton and great to see you enjoying your day at the event on Sunday in the showers of rain, Saturday was a gorgeous sunny and very warm "last day of summer".

Sorry to hear you are still experiencing problems with attaching your photo's. I also notice we have a shortage of reply buttons again??

The re creation of the September 1919 Lincoln Tractor Trials was a huge success, ( to keep our M-H website staff happy I had better start with a related tractor, so I don't get banned from the site with all the other makes)
Joe should be really pleased to see the progress on the restoration of this British Cub Junior, it does not seem possible that the West family have now owned this tractor for 13 years and been working on the restoration for 9 years, but just to get it to the event they bolted the new wheel rims to the spokes, sat the engine and gearbox in the "U" frame and rolled it on the lorry, it sat proudly on display with it's trial number of 51 on the display board, each tractor participating was assigned it's original trials number.

More to follow later.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

The next tractor on display which was at the 1919 Trials with connection to M-H was the "Whiting Bull"
This tractor is one of the very few surviving today, original import Big Bull tractors from the USA which was sold in England as "Whiting Bull". It spent it's working life in Norfolk and still resides in the same County today.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Before we leave the M-H aspect and connections at this years event, as Alan mentioned I was asked to put together a "1919 Period M-H Show Stand" of implements to compliment all the 1919 Trials Tractors.

With the help of M-H enthusiasts Jack Turner and his M-H chain lift three furrow plough, Alec Fairbrother and Colin Cooper with their M-H Sail Reaper and a few of my pieces we put together a good representation of M-H implements. The Peterborough Farm Machinery Preservation Society put together a good display of farm carts, wagons and horse ploughs. Other collectors brought various interesting pieces of early implements for the display. It was rather unusual to see five sail reapers at one event.

Here are the photo's relating to the M-H Show Stand.

Manufactured a little further afield the three wheeled  Glasgow tractor made in Scotland and a very popular tractor of the 1919 period the Fiat Model 702 made in in Italy.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

My last few covering the weekends event.

A very recent restoration of an Albion One Horse Manual Reaper, made in Leigh Lancashire, this is the fore runner to the more common sail reaper for harvesting grain.

A Saunderson of Bedford three furrow plough manufactured for their Saunderson Universal farm tractor, another very rare item.

A very well restored typical British farm wagon, the design and construction of wagons vary in different Counties of the country.

The last photo shows a I-H 10-20 Titan tractor driving a Blackstone of Stamford Stone grinding mill, grinding wheat into flour for bread making.

Hope you have enjoyed just a glimpse of a very rare re-created event spanning 100 years of Tractor Trials in the County of Lincolnshire.

Well done to all the organisers involved, despite the rain on Sunday we all enjoyed the event.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Hi Malcolm and all!  What a great show and demonstration.  Thanks for sharing all the pics.  I loved the concept and it would have been fun to see the display you put together as well as all of the examples of tractors presented.

Now (tongue in cheek) I didn't know this took place in 2013 as the title suggested?  With 239 responses, the reply button disappeared long ago. (Hint: if you scroll down far enough you will find a working "reply" button.) Although everything is still functional on the thread, there are limits on the posts somewhere around 150 befire the reply button disappears I believe. Beats me why it has those limits but it does still work  I had this problem when I listed all the books and their descriptions John F had put together.

In most cases, it is best to start a new thread with a new topic, thought or show.

It is still a great place to share our experiences and stories.  I, too, hope the changes are forthcoming.  We hope to put a "store" on the ribbon so the DVDs and other items can be purchased through the web.  We just need to get things set up.   In fact, we have a volunteer willing to manage the store, we just need to get it up and running.

Thanks again for all the sharing - What a great show and experience!

Gary

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

I was particularly interested in the three Moline Universal tractors their plow and culivator that appeared at the Trials show!  They are hard to find in the States but three showed up there.

Purdue Ag Alumni had one donated to them and is on display during our Indiana State Fair.  We had no idea what model it was or anything else about them.  We starting asking and found out we had a Model E.  This was the last model of the series that ran from Model A to Model E.  Surprisingly, none of the Moline Universal collectors had ever seen one.  We have basically discovered it could be the only one known to exist.  The donors had no idea it was that rare, as well!!

We had the opportunity to take it to the Moline Universal 100th Anniverary Birthday Party a couple weeks ago in Moline, IL.  It was the icing on the cake for the show!!!

The good thing is, it too, is red and yellow so the pictures should be okay!! Taking privileges, I know!!  The first pic is the tractor as it looks today. My hope is we can get Ervin to make as a needed hood.  The second pic is the donor taking his last ride on the tractor back in 1982.  He bought it only because his father was in a picture driving a Model C at Colorado State Unviersity Reseach Farm in the 1920's

I would love to get the owners' information from the show so we can add them to the registry that has been established by the group.

Enjoy!!

Gary
