RE:Something different!!

Joe

I was really disappointed we couldn't have Bar Stool Racing in Norfolk because of the lack of hills and no snow. That didn't deter Bob Parke. He has come up with the answer so when you come over to Marsham we can have races between the UK Teams and The US Teams. Anyone spilling his beer gets disqualified!!!!!

Don't forget to pack your Bar Stools when you come over. It may be possible to hire some at Marsham at PREMIUM RATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to the fun or may be a few bruises !

Alan

RE:Something different!!

Nothing to do with Massey but it is finally that time of year again!! I had my first taste of fresh sweet corn off a local truck selling on the street and it was great!!!

Today wile checking my tomatoes I noticed two nice looking red ones toward the bottom so I just had to pick them cut them up and put some salt on them... They just melted in my mouth!! My tomato plants are doing great again this year as you can see my tallest one just to the right of me is as tall as me the one behind me is catching up. I can't wait for some more red ones to pop up..

RE:Something different!!

Been kind of quiet on here lately so I thought I would post this on this non Massey related thread.

I was hoping I would be retired long before I would have to scrap some of this new equipment from todays day and age as it is getting so large it is quite a pain to deal with. I just got this in to be scraped  and there have been many ambulance chasers with this one! It is a 2017 prototype baler and I have to scrap it as they are done with it now and don't want it to get out to the public.

RE:Something different!!

Joe,

Why don't you use it yourself - Krone is a very good make and well respected over here.

Bu the look of the mud in your yard I assume that spring is arriving!

Joe

In fifty years or more you realise there will be some "hay making machinery collectors" searching your yard in MN for evidence or remains of a rare machine that never made full production and they will be screaming at you for breaking it up and sending it to China.

Nothing new it's happened for decades and we try and hunt the rare items down!!!!

Good luck with the torch and gas bottles, that's not like crushing cars!! Expect you will nail the tag to your shed wall just for a talking point for when all those Krone enthusiasts visit in years to come.

RE:Something different!!

John,

There is no doubt in my mind at all that Krone is a great machine, probably one of the best ones out there as there are many of them around on the farms around here also a lot of Krone Choppers. This machine was taken apart by the crew who ran it and I am sure they kept some of the key parts they wanted to test for wear and to see how it stood up. The man who delivered it to me said they ran 150,000 bales through it and a new machine like this would run about $300,000.00 for a new one. Seems a bit steep to me and I don't know how a man could justify owning one of these but they seem to keep selling them...

Malcolm,

The thought of stashing this machine away for 50 years sure did cross my mind but that would put me at 102 years old and by then I am not sure people will even know what a baler is or even care... By then cattle operations will probably be out lawed by the animal activists and all the world will be vegans... I suppose by then they could possibly use it to bale Hemp for overseas shipping though...

They did make me sign papers stating it would be scraped so I guess if I want another one someday I better keep my end of the bargain.

RE:Something different!!

I know this is nothing to do with MH but I thought it was still cool. If it needs to be deleted I understand. Anyway so the first week of October me and the girlfriend went to Iowa to pick up a belt pulley and drive from another member. She had never been to Iowa before so I took her along. On the way I took her into the Iowa 80 trucking museum which also happens to be in the Iowa 80 truckstop backyard. I had been in there before when I used to go with dad when he was still an over the road truck driver. But they had added some new stuff since I was there the last time. At first the girlfriend didnt think she was going to enjoy it but when we first walked in and she seen a few she liked, that was all it took and she enjoyed the rest of the tour. Anyway what Im posting this for is there was a couple trucks that stood out to me. The first one was a '66 Autocar with a C-180 Cummins. This truck was built using stainless steel sheet metal. The guy that owned it ran a company that hauled steel out of Philadelphia PA and he had all 13 of his trucks built that way because he wanted set his fleet apart from every other trucking company. The one in the museum was one of 8 or 9 out of the original 13 that had survived. The next truck that stood out to me was '58 Kenworth Bullnose with a Cummins NTC 380 engine and a 5x4 transmission. The guy that owns bought it when it was new and paid 25000 for it. He put all 5.2 million miles on it and when he retired he donated the truck to the museum where it currently resides.

RE:Something different!!

Very cool - I drove by there a couple months ago but didn't have time to stop.  It is on my list to get to for sure.  I can't believe you only took two pictures.  Go ahead, you can upload more.  There are plenty of people on here who have multiple hobbies or even different color tractors in their sheds, so I say post away!  I am partial to the Mack trucks and I know they have a few gems in there.

RE:Something different!!

Oh trust me I took way more pictures than those two, haha. Well here's some more then and theres a couple in there just for you Drew, enjoy! The '73 Diamond Reo and the GMC General are my two personal favorites.

RE:Something different!!

Dakota This post is not Massey related so I am prepared to have it taken down. Dakota you were talking about W W 2 Airfields. I moved up to Norfolk in 1977 to work on a farm that included Thorpe Abbots airfield that was the home of the 100th Bomb Group in the war. They flew B 17's. In 1977 most on the airfield was in tact. Just a small piece of the main runway had been taken up but most of the buildings, runways and hard stands were there. Now it is just the Control Tower and a bit of the perimeter track. Thorpe Abbotts is four miles to the east of where I live now,Tibenham Airfield is one mile to the west of us. I am told there was an Airfield every five miles. Tibenham had B 24's and James Stewart, the film star was stationed there for a while. The airfield is now used as a glider club and a tractor club that I belong to uses the club house for our meetings once a month. Thought this might be of interest to you. Alan
